Prague drinks more beer per capita than any other capital on earth — and behind the tank Pilsner there's a craft scene that's been quietly rebuilding the game. From the Vinohrady brewpub revival of Vinohradský pivovar to the new-wave taprooms of Dva Kohouti in Karlín, the Czech capital is one of Europe's most rewarding beer cities — and almost everything is reachable by tram or metro. We've mapped the must-visit breweries, brewpubs and craft bars across Vinohrady, Karlín, Nusle, Holešovice and the Old Town — with transit directions, opening hours and what to order at each stop.

Prague craft beer — Frequently asked questions
What's the best craft beer neighbourhood in Prague?
Vinohrady is the heart of the modern craft scene, with Vinohradský pivovar and BeerGeek Bar within a 10-minute walk. For a deeper cut, head southeast to Bad Flash Bar in Vršovice. Karlín is the second pole, anchored by Dva Kohouti and Pivovarský klub. For something truly historic, climb up to Strahov monastery; for a deep-cut local crawl, head south to Nusle for Zlý časy.
Czech tank lager vs. craft — what's the difference?
Tank lager (tankové pivo) is unpasteurised, unfiltered Pilsner Urquell or Kozel served fresh from copper tanks at places like Lokál — and it's spectacular. Czech craft is a separate, newer scene: hop-forward IPAs, sours and modern lagers from breweries like Matuška, Sibeeria, Dva Kohouti and Sibeeria's import list. Drink both. Don't pick sides.
Can you visit several craft breweries in Prague in one day?
Easily. Start in Vinohrady (Vinohradský pivovar → BeerGeek Bar), then tram to Bad Flash Bar in Vršovice. From there, metro or tram 15 minutes to Karlín for Dva Kohouti and Pivovarský klub, then finish at Sibeeria in Holešovice or U Tří růží in the Old Town. The metro and tram network is excellent and runs late.
Which Prague breweries open on Mondays?
Most do — Vinohradský pivovar, BeerGeek Bar, U Tří růží, Pivovarský klub, Zlý časy and Klášterní pivovar Strahov all open Monday afternoon. Dva Kohouti and Sibeeria sometimes close on Mondays — always check the day before.
Is Prague cheap for craft beer?
Cheaper than Berlin or Copenhagen, more expensive than Czech tank Pilsner. A 0.4L craft IPA runs 75–120 CZK (€3–€5). Vinohrady and Karlín are mid-priced; Old Town tourist bars charge double for the same beer. Pay in cash for small bars, card almost everywhere else.
