Buenos Aires craft beer — Frequently asked questions

Is Buenos Aires a real craft beer city?

Yes — and arguably the biggest in South America. Palermo alone has more than 50 brewpubs and beer bars, and serious breweries like Strange Brewing, Antares, Patagonia, Bröeders and Blest brew across the city. The scene exploded after 2014 and Buenos Aires now hosts its own Beer Week every year.

Which neighborhood is best for craft beer in Buenos Aires?

Palermo — Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood — is the heart of the scene. Temple Craft Soho, Glück and Jerome sit within a 10-minute walk of each other near Plaza Serrano, Bros & Hops is a little further into Palermo Hollywood, and Strange Brewing is a short ride away in Colegiales. Puerto Madero is the scenic choice for an afternoon at Cerveza Patagonia; San Telmo and Núñez are worth a detour for Bierlife, La Birrería and Blest.

Can I do a craft beer crawl in Buenos Aires in one day?

Yes, in Palermo. Start mid-afternoon at Strange Brewing in Colegiales, take a 10-minute taxi to Bros & Hops (opens 6pm, Tue-Sat), then walk about 20 minutes to Glück, Temple Craft Soho and Jerome — those three are within 600 m of each other. For a longer day, taxi to Puerto Madero for sunset at Cerveza Patagonia, then back to Palermo for dinner. Taxis and Uber are cheap and safe; the Subte (metro) covers Palermo and Recoleta.

Is craft beer expensive in Buenos Aires?

Much cheaper than in Europe or North America. A pint of local craft typically costs the equivalent of €3-4, and full flights of 5 beers are around €6-8. Brewpub food (pizza, burgers, picadas) is similarly affordable. Tip 10% on the total — service is rarely included.

Is it safe to bar-hop at night in Buenos Aires?

Palermo, Recoleta and Puerto Madero are safe to walk in the evening, including for solo travellers. San Telmo is safe on the main streets but use taxis after 11pm. Avoid carrying valuables or expensive phones visibly on the street. Argentines eat dinner late — most brewpubs are at their busiest from 9-11pm.
