Craft beer guide

The best craft beer stops in Gdansk

Gdańsk brews with a thousand years of Hanseatic backstory. Before the war, Danzig was famous across the Baltic for Jopenbier, a syrupy dark beer aged in the granaries along the Motława; today those same brick warehouses hold brewpubs again. The map is simple: the Main Town (Długi Targ, Straganiarska, Szeroka) packs the historic brewpubs and the best multitaps within five minutes of each other, and Wrzeszcz — 10 minutes north by SKM train — is where locals actually drink, with a dense cluster of breweries and craft pubs around Grunwaldzka and Wajdeloty. Our selection order: real breweries and brewpubs first, dedicated craft bars second, bottle shops to finish. Everything below is walkable inside each district.

Gdansk craft beer — FAQ

Is Gdansk good for craft beer?

Yes. Fewer taprooms than Krakow or Warsaw, but a strong core: two historic brewpubs in the Main Town, three breweries in Wrzeszcz and a handful of very good multitaps. Two days is plenty.

Main Town or Wrzeszcz?

Both. Do the Main Town in the afternoon (Brovarnia, PG4, Pułapka, Labeerynt), then take the SKM train 10 minutes to Wrzeszcz for the evening (Pub Spółdzielczy, Graciarnia, Z Innej Beczki).

What is Jopenbier?

The legendary dark, extremely strong beer of old Danzig, brewed from the 16th century and aged in the granaries. Several Gdańsk brewpubs now brew tributes to it — ask what is on.

Is it expensive?

No. Half a litre of Polish craft runs 16-24 PLN (≈4-6 €), a bit more on the Motława waterfront. Cards accepted everywhere.

How do I get between districts?

The SKM commuter train links Gdańsk Główny to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz in about 7 minutes, every few minutes until late. Trams run too. Never drive after tasting.
